Leslie Flude founded Fludes Carpets in 1929, when he opened his first carpet shop in Birkenhead, Merseyside, with £50 borrowed from his father. Early success enabled him to open another store in Wallasey and then three more on the South coast prior to the outbreak of World War 2. With the help of Leslie's son Dudley, Fludes expanded throughout the South coast to establish a network of up to 20 stores.
Like many other businesses in the Sixties and Seventies, Fludes diversified into carpet wholesaling, nationwide contracts and a finance company. By the late seventies Dudley made the decision to reign in the Groups' interests and to concentrate on carpet retailing which had always proven the most successful
Today, Fludes remain a family business. The company has invested heavily in refurbishing stores with the objective of providing a comfortable and interesting environment for customers to shop in. The company is conscious of maintaining and improving customer satisfaction and this year is celebrating 75 years in business.. |
